NASCAR Hands Down Record Penatly

NASCAR suspended driver Carl Long for 12 races, and fined his crew cheif Charles Swing a record $200,000 for using an engine that was too big for NASCAR’s specifications. The penalty was the largest in the history of the sport.

Swing was also suspended, and Long lost 200 drivers and owner’s points, also a record.  Danielle Long, the car owner, was also suspended 12 races.

Long experienced engine trouble during practice and swapped engines. NASCAR examined the bad engine and discovered an issue. The engine was sent to NASCAR’s research and development center where it was discovered that the engine exceeded the maximum cubic inch displacement specs.
