David Black, whose Aegis Labs runs NASCAR’s random testing program, disputed Jeremy Mayfield’s claim that use of two allergy medicines led him to fail a drug test, resulting in suspension.
Black said:
What we have is a clear violation of policy. … In my many years of experience, I have never seen a violation like this due to the combination of over-the-counter or prescription products.
But, Black did not indicate what caused Mayfield’s positive test. He did, however, say it was a “drug of concern.”
Mayfield will have to complete a treatment program before being cleared to race again.
