Busch-Edwards Incident At Bristol

Edwards Wins Sharpie 500

Carl Edwards laid the bumper to Kyle Busch and moved him out of the way to win the Sharpie 500 from Bristol Motor Speedway.

After the race, Busch drove up into Edwards to show him that he wasn’t happy with the pass for the lead. Edwards drove down into Busch as he drove away and spun him out.

Busch said:

Carl’s going to say he’s sorry, that he didn’t want to race that way, but he always does. We’ll take it, we’ll go on and we’ll race him that way in the Chase if that’s the way he wants to race.

Edwards said:

It’s one of those deals where I couldn’t get by him, I couldn’t get by him, and I just had to ask myself, ‘Would he do that to me?’ And he has before, so that’s the way it goes.

Top 5: Edwards, Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, and Jeff Gordon.

Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, and David Ragan rounded out the top 10.

Notables: Greg Biffle (11th), Jamie McMurray (12th), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (18th), Jimmie Johnson (33rd), Kasey Kahne (40th), and Jeff Burton (42nd).

Lost of chasers had trouble tonight.

Earnhardt Jr. jumped the start of the race and passed several cars before the start/finish line, which is a violation of NASCAR rules. He was black flagged and served a pass through penalty. He remained at least a lap down for the duration of the race.

Johnson got together with Sterling Marlin, cutting a tire. He lost several laps as the crew fixed the damage. He finished 33rd.

Burton got caught up in an accident with Joe Nemechek, Marlin, and Sam Hornish Jr. He suffered heavy damage. He finished 42nd.

Kahne got collected in a big crash that started when Casey Mears and Michael Waltrip got together. Bowyer was also involved, and knocked the toe out. But, he managed to rally to finish seventh. Kahne finished 40th.

It’s Official: Mears To RCR

Richard Childress Racing announced that Casey Mears will take over driving duties of the RCR’s No. 07 Jack Daniels Chevy for Clint Bowyer, who will be moving over to RCR’s No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevy.

General Mills was not comfortable with Mears as its driving because he currently drives for their competitor. It’s also unknown how Mears will perform, and General Mills wanted a driver that would contend for a championship, which led to the switch with Bowyer.
