Newman, Truex Jr. To Stewart Haas Racing?

July 13, 2008

Captain Thunder Racing is reporting that Ryan Newman joining Newman Haas Racing seems to be a done deal.

Old Spice and Office Depot are set to sponsor Tony Stewart’s car, but sources are saying that Burger King and UPS are also working on a deal to sponsor two cars for Stewart Haas Racing.

Sources also say that Stewart is trying to convince Martin Truex Jr. to join Stewart Haas. Truex is said to have been furious with the penalty at Daytona, and that may influence whether he decides to stay with Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevy.

Busch Wins Lifelock.com 400

July 13, 2008

Kyle Busch passed Jimmie Johnson on the final restart with two laps to go and held on to win the Lifelock.com 400 from Chicagoland Speedway. The win is his seventh Sprint Cup win this season.

On the final restart, Johnson brought the field to the green slowly. Busch timed it perfectly, and got right on Johnson’s back bumper, as Johnson accelerated. Busch then dove to the outside and pinned Johnson down in the corner, and drove right by Johnson for the win.

Top 5: Busch, Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Gref Biffle, and Tony Stewart.

Brian Vickers, Matt Kenseth, David Ragan, Martin Truex Jr., and Ryan Newman finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

Notables: Jeff Gordon (11th), Kasey Kahne (15th), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (16th), Mark Martin (17th), Jeff Burton (18th), Kurt Busch (28th), Carl Edwards (32nd), and Denny Hamlin (40th).
