Kasey Kahne battled back from an early pit road mishap to win the Pocono 500 from Pocono Raceway.
On a restart with about 30 laps to go, Brian Vickers and Dale Earnhardt Jr. stayed out. Kahne restarted third behind them. With his 10-lap fresher tires, he quickly passed Jr. and dispensed of Vickers shortly thereafter.
Denny Hamlin had equal tires to Kahne, and got passed Jr. but could not get by Vickers. Kahne checked out and cruised to victory.
Top 5: Kahne, Vickers, Hamlin, Earnhardt Jr., and Jeff Burton.
Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, and Mark Martin finished sixth through 10th, respectively.
Notables: Bobby Labonte (11th), Kevin Harvick (13th), Jeff Gordon (14th), Greg Biffle (15th), Tony Stewart (35th), and Kyle Busch (43rd).
Kahne had a miscommunication in the pits when he came down for right-side tires. His front tire changer, however, removed some of the left front lugnuts, thinking it was a four-tire stop. Kahne had to come back down pit road, but battled back to win the race.
Biffle had a good car, and was leading when he came down pit road with a tire issue. He was caught speeding exiting pit road, and had to come back down pit road for the penalty.
Stewart was caught speeding exiting pit road on his last green-flag stop, he never recovered, as a caution came out after he served his penalty.
The Busch brothers both had trouble. Kurt spun early, and broke his splitter. But, his team fixed it while keeping him on the lead lap. He recovered to finish eight.
Kyle, however, wasn’t so lucky. Kyle started from the rear of the field because he wrecked his primary car in practice. As he was making his way to the front, he and his spotter had a miscommunication. His spotter was trying to tell him that McMurray was on his outside, but as he was saying it, Kyle tried to slide up into the preferred line on the straightaway, and he clipped the front of McMurray, sending him into the outside wall. He finished dead last.
